It is important for your eye health that you keep your lash extensions clean.
Lashes act as a filter for our eyes to keep things out, kinda like how a vacuum filter catches all the dust that then needs to be washed out. When we add lash extensions to your natural lashes, it amplifies how much it catches and it just sits on the lash line.
Think of the makeup and skincare, facial oils and sweat, dirt, and dead skin - this builds up in a day and can lead to potential infections and irritations... we don't want this to happen!
So just like how you brush your teeth, we need to be using a lash-specific cleanser/shampoo to get all that gross stuff off.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Lash Cleanser
Clean Spoolie
Clean soft Brush
Towel
Handheld Fan
Rinse Bottle
5 mins
HOW TO;
If wearing makeup, please remove it first. Make sure to use something that won't catch on the extensions like cotton or terry towels.
APPLY THE CLEANSER
Using a lash extension-specific cleanser, you are going to do one eye at a time. Apply 1-2 pumps of cleanser to your closed eyelid. Using your soft brush, work this into your eyelash extensions. I like to do circular motions, both on the top layer and underneath layer of the lash line. Avoid rough rubbing and pulling the lashes.
TOP TIP
Use a towel held under your eye to catch any liquids, or do this in the shower
RINSE
With a rinse bottle, thoroughly rinse off any cleanser that you can see, still keeping this eye closed.
If you do not have a rinse bottle, you can scoop water with your clean hand, it may take longer to rinse all the cleanser off
TWICE
If you feel as though you haven't gotten the lashes squeaky clean and can still see any makeup residue coming off your brush, you can repeat this again- hygiene is important!!
DRY
Pat dry with the towel. Using a clean lash brush and a handheld fan, you are going to brush through your lashes while fanning. This helps maintain the lashes shape and removes any tangles.
REPEAT
Complete these steps to your other eye.
Wash your eyelash extensions every day
FAQS
1. How often should I wash my lash extensions?
Ideally, wash your lash extensions morning and night to prevent buildup. I recommend adding it to your tooth-brushing routine or during your shower. Takes less than 5 mins
2. Can I use regular facial cleanser or shampoo on my lashes?
No, use a cleanser specifically designed for lash extensions. Regular cleansers often contain oils, alcohol, or other ingredients that can weaken the lash adhesive.
3. What’s the best tool to use for cleaning lash extensions?
A soft clean lash cleansing brush or your fingertips works best. Avoid cotton pads, as the fibers can get caught in the extensions.
4. Can I wash my lashes in the shower?
Yes, but avoid direct water pressure on your lashes. Use lukewarm water and cleanse gently with a lash brush or cleanser.
5. What happens if I don’t clean my lash extensions?
Dirt, oil, and makeup can build up, leading to poor retention, irritation, or even infections like blepharitis and an overgrowth of lash mites. Clean lashes last longer and stay healthier.
6. Will washing my lashes make them fall out?
No, washing your lashes properly strengthens their retention. Avoid rubbing or tugging, as that can cause fallout.
7. Can I use micellar water to clean my lashes?
No, micellar water will not properly clean your lash extensions. It’s not designed to remove the buildup of oils and debris from the lash line, which is essential for maintaining healthy lashes and good retention. Use a lash-specific cleanser instead.
8. Should I avoid water completely on my lashes?
At CurlyWurly Lashes n Beauty, you can get your eyelash extensions wet straight away - in fact you will leave having had them thoroughly rinsed at the end of every appointment. After that, regular cleaning with cleanser and water is essential for lash health.
9. What do I do if my lashes look messy after washing?
Gently brush through them with a clean lash brush while they’re damp. This will help them regain their shape.
10. Can I use baby shampoo to clean my lashes?
It’s not ideal as it may not be pH-balanced for your eyes or safe for lash adhesive. A proper lash cleanser is best.
11. How do I dry my lash extensions after washing?
Pat them dry with a lint-free towel and let them air dry. You can use a handheld fan on a low setting if needed.
12. What if I have sensitive eyes?
Choose a lash cleanser formulated for sensitive eyes, and be extra gentle during the cleaning process.
13. Can I skip washing my lashes if I don’t wear makeup?
No, even without makeup, natural oils, dirt, and sweat do accumulate and create a crust on your lashes. Washing them regularly keeps them clean and healthy.
14. Can I use waterproof makeup and still clean my lashes?
It’s best to avoid waterproof makeup altogether, as it’s harder to remove and can weaken the adhesive. Stick to oil-free, lash extension-friendly products.
15. Can I use saline or water only to clean my lashes?
While water helps rinse away surface dirt, it doesn’t remove oils and residue as effectively as a lash cleanser. Use a cleanser for the best results.
16. Why are my lashes falling out after washing them?
If lashes fall out during cleaning, it’s likely due to natural shedding. However, harsh scrubbing or using oil-based products can also weaken the adhesive. Be gentle and stick to recommended products.
